How AI is taking over technology

Technology has become so incorporated into our lives, that now, it would be hard to look back and imagine a time when technology was not so integral to our existence. It’s not that we need technology to survive, it’s just that the reliance and dependency we have on technology has exceeded to a level that now makes it seems impossible to revert back to being without such extreme technological advancements. These advancements can be seen in every aspect of the technological field, namely AI, which scientists and tech experts are working on evolving to an extraordinary point.

AI has itself become advanced to being incorporated into daily lives through something as simple as a Snapchat filter. These AI are not the ones you think of when you imagine Artificial Intelligence, which is a robot with realistic human features that can comprehend and respond to you while also doing human tasks. The AI in our phones and our apps can recognize features on your face, help you navigate your phone through virtual assistants such as Siri or Google, and help you locate things nearby through location services. These AI are also advanced as compared to when they were first introduced and are now the primary method of unlocking some phones or sensing faces when taking pictures.

A lot of tourist destinations and hotels in Japan use AI robots as service providers. In fact, there are very rarely any humans in these places, and only AI runs the whole system. Of course, it is very possible that there are humans behind the scenes monitoring the AI, but isn’t it fascinating that AI is advanced to the point of being solely responsible for checking in hotel guests or serving customers coffee at coffee houses?

Most robotic AI’s can also advance themselves, as scientists have evolved them to a point that they can sense when their systems need updating and instead of waiting for a human to come and start the updating process, they do it on their own. This can also be seen in laptops that do self-optimized updates or phones which know when to update their own apps and systems.

AI is potentially the next step in technological advancements that will take over the world by making us, humans, reliant on its systems and operations. AI has the capability of being beneficial on a large scale, such as flying planes on its own, sensing danger on battlefields, or even performing surgery. However, scientists are always concerned that some AI can advance to the point of having its own thoughts. A scary prospect, but not entirely impossible.
